This Month's Kicker
I used to like to play nickel Super Triple Play video poker machines at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. There were a few machines that I particularly liked. I was waiting for l someone to vacate one of my favorite machines, and there was a woman playing who did not particularly like me, and for no reason that i could ever imagine, other than we liked the same machines. So in an effort to get rid of me, she told me of a bank of machines near the entrance that people seem to be very attracted to. So I left her to her machine. There were five 5-hand nickel poker machines with separate progressive royals for each hand. And as she said, they were full. Plus a line! So later in the evening, when the line was nil, I waited until a machine was vacated, and sat down to play. I was surprised at how large the progressives were. They ranged from over $600 to $2700. The machine I was playing was lucky enough that I sat there for a few hours without losing. Finally at 2 a.m. after playing for nearly 4 hours, I hit a royal on line A for $2740.01! On a $.25 hand! The next day when I saw the lady playing the super triple play machine, I mentioned to her my good luck of the previous evening. She actually demanded 10% from me! And she was serious… and quite unhappy. I smiled politely and walked away. And it felt almost as good as the win!
